How to Download Your Instagram Data

Follow these steps to get the correct ZIP file for unfollowTool.

Step 1: Request Download in Instagram App

On your device, log in to your Instagram account, go to your profile, open the top-right menu (☰), then access "Your Activity" and select "Download Your Information."
Tap on "Request Download," choose your Instagram profile, and press "Next."
Under "Information options", choose "Select types of information".
In the list, find and select only "Followers and Following", then tap "Next."
Set the "Format" option to JSON.
Set the "Media quality" to Low (or any, it doesn't matter for this data).
Set the "Date Range" to All time.
Tap "Submit Request." Instagram will prepare your file and send you an email. This can take minutes or hours.

Once you receive the email from Instagram (subject like "Your Meta information is ready to download"), open it on your **computer**.
Click the "Download information" link in the email.
You might need to log in to Instagram in your browser.
On the download page, find the request for "Followers and following" and click "Download".
You may need to enter your password again.
Save the ZIP file (e.g., `instagram-yourusername-YYYY-MM-DD-....zip`) to your computer. **Do not unzip it.**

Go back to the unfollowTool Home Page.
Click the "Upload Instagram ZIP File" box or drag & drop the downloaded ZIP file onto it.
Wait a moment while the tool processes the data locally in your browser.
Discover the results: a list of users you follow who don't follow you back!
