Unfollowerstracker.com: how it works, where your ZIP goes, and an alternative

If you searched for "unfollowerstracker com" or "unfollowers tracker zip", you were most likely looking for Unfollowers Tracker at unfollowerstracker.com, a free website that reads your Instagram data ZIP and lists the accounts that don't follow you back. UnfollowTool is a different website. We aren't affiliated with unfollowerstracker.com, but our homepage also calls itself an unfollowers tracker, which is probably how you ended up here.

Short answer: unfollowerstracker.com is a free, Instagram-only website. You upload the data export ZIP that Instagram gives you, and it never asks for your password. Its FAQ says the analysis is done locally, but in the code we read on October 1, 2026, the ZIP is uploaded to the site's server and the lists come back from there. If you'd rather keep the file on your device, UnfollowTool reads the same ZIP inside your browser, for free.

A note up front: we make UnfollowTool, so we compete with unfollowerstracker.com. We kept this page to things you can check yourself, and we say where their site does something ours doesn't.

Unfollowerstracker.com and similar names

Several sites use almost the same name and work in different ways. Check the address bar before you upload anything or type in a username.

They're separate websites with their own terms and pricing. Everything below is about unfollowerstracker.com only.

How we checked

On October 1, 2026, we:

  1. Loaded the homepage, the results page (/results) and the pending requests page (/pending-requests) and read the visible text and FAQs.
  2. Downloaded the JavaScript files of the two pages that take your file and read what they do with it.
  3. Read the privacy policy, the terms, the cookie policy and the site's own export tutorial.

What we didn't do: we didn't upload a real export, and we can't see what happens on the site's server. Websites change, so this describes the state on that date.

How unfollowerstracker.com works

It's an export-based tool, like UnfollowTool. You get your data from Instagram first, then hand the file to the site.

  1. In Instagram, request an export of your information. The site's tutorial tells you to select only Followers and following, date range All time, format JSON.
  2. When Instagram's email arrives, download the ZIP file.
  3. On unfollowerstracker.com, choose Discover Unfollowers, select the ZIP and press the button again.
  4. A results page opens with two tabs: Unfollowers and Fans.

The page sets two rules for the file. Its name must contain "instagram" and end in .zip, or the page refuses to send it and shows an error saying the file name isn't original.

The file picker also warns that the ZIP must be smaller than 15 MB. In the code we read, that size warning doesn't stop the upload, so we can't say what the server does with a larger file. A full-account export is often larger than 15 MB, so a followers-only export is the safer choice here.

What the two tabs mean:

  • Unfollowers lists accounts you follow that don't follow you back. Despite the name, it doesn't show who stopped following you. The site's own results FAQ explains that the list is a snapshot of your export.
  • Fans lists accounts that follow you but that you don't follow back.

Each row shows a username, a date and a button labeled Unfollow (or Follow on the Fans tab) that opens the profile on Instagram. You unfollow there yourself. The lists show 10 accounts per page and have a search box.

A second page, linked in the menu as Discover Who Ghosts You, takes the same ZIP and lists follow requests you sent that haven't been accepted. Its Cancel Request button opens the profile so you can withdraw the request on Instagram.

What's missing: the homepage advertises mutual connections, but the results page has no mutuals tab. The code has no option to save a list as a file. And each upload is analyzed on its own, so there's no comparison with an earlier upload.

Price, operator and ads

  • Price: free. The FAQ says there are no fees, no subscriptions and no limit on uploads. You don't create an account.
  • Platforms: Instagram only. We found no app; it's a website that works in phone browsers.
  • Who runs it: an individual developer, credited in the site's footer. Contact is a Gmail address. We found no company name or postal address on the site.
  • Ads and analytics: the pages load Google AdSense and Google Analytics. The cookie policy names Google Analytics and treats continued use of the site as consent.
  • Legal pages: the privacy policy, terms and cookie policy all carry the effective date 07/09/2023.

Privacy: where your ZIP goes

This is the main difference between unfollowerstracker.com and UnfollowTool.

What the site says

The homepage and FAQ stress that you never give the site your Instagram password, and that's accurate. The FAQ answer to "Is it safe" also says "All analysis is done locally using your downloaded Instagram ZIP file."

What the code does

When you press Discover Unfollowers, the page sends your ZIP file as an upload to admin.unfollowerstracker.com/api/store. Then it asks that server for the two lists and shows them. The pending requests page works the same way. Along with the file, the page sends its file name, and Instagram usually puts your username in that name.

So "locally" may mean "from your own file instead of from Instagram", but the file itself does leave your device.

Diagram with two lanes. Top: read in your browser, the ZIP turns into results on your device and the arrow to a server is crossed out, nothing uploaded. Bottom: uploaded to a server, the ZIP is sent to a server and the results are sent back.
Read in your browser or uploaded to a server: the difference is whether the ZIP leaves your device.

What the privacy policy says

The privacy policy matches the code better than the FAQ does. It describes you providing a ZIP file to the service, says the data is used to calculate your lists and run the site's services, says it isn't sold, rented or shared with third parties, and says the operator takes "reasonable measures" to protect it. It doesn't say where the server is, how long uploaded files are kept or when they're deleted.

What this means for you

None of this means something bad happens to your file. It means you're trusting the operator's server with the names of everyone you follow and everyone who follows you, under a policy without a stated retention period. If you use it, export only Followers and following, so the ZIP contains nothing else from your account.

Because the site never logs in to Instagram, using it creates no activity on your account. That's true of any export-based tool, including ours. If you're comparing it with apps that do ask for your login, see our page on login and session risks.

How to check any tool's upload yourself

You don't have to rely on our reading of the code. On a computer, this takes a few minutes and works for unfollowerstracker.com, UnfollowTool or any similar site:

  1. Open the tool in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
  2. Press F12 (or right-click the page and choose Inspect) and open the Network tab.
  3. Clear the list, then select your ZIP in the tool and start the analysis.
  4. Look for a POST request right after that, with a size close to your ZIP's size. That's an upload.

On unfollowerstracker.com, if the code we read is still live, you'll see a request to admin.unfollowerstracker.com. On UnfollowTool you'll see no such request. Small requests to Google's ad and analytics servers don't contain your file.

A quicker test: load the page, turn off Wi-Fi, then select the ZIP. A tool that works in your browser still finishes the analysis. A tool that needs its server shows an error.

When unfollowerstracker.com is a good choice

It's a reasonable pick if:

  • You want a one-time list of who doesn't follow you back on Instagram, without an account and without paying.
  • You're comfortable with your followers and following lists being processed on the operator's server.
  • You like its pending requests page with the Cancel Request shortcut.

It's a weaker fit if you want the file to stay on your device or want to see who unfollowed you between two exports. The same goes for saving a list as a spreadsheet or analyzing TikTok, X or Facebook. It also rejects a file you've renamed and asks for a ZIP smaller than 15 MB.

Unfollowerstracker.com vs. UnfollowTool

Both tools read the same Instagram export, so the core answer, who doesn't follow you back, is the same. The differences are where the file is processed and what you can do with the result.

Limits on our side: the "unfollowed you" list needs saved history, so it doesn't work in a private window or on a different browser. The X export contains only account IDs, so X results link to profiles instead of showing usernames, and the Facebook export contains only names, so those results can't link to profiles.

Feature for feature, we didn't find anything unfollowerstracker.com shows that UnfollowTool doesn't. Its strength is simplicity: one button and two tabs. Its Cancel Request button and our Open link do the same thing: both open the profile, and you withdraw the request on Instagram.

How to switch: use your ZIP with UnfollowTool

If you already have the ZIP you used on unfollowerstracker.com, you can open the same file in UnfollowTool. You don't need a new export. If you don't have one yet:

  1. Open the export page. Go to Accounts Center → Your information and permissions and choose Export your information → Create export → your Instagram profile → Export to device. Meta is gradually renaming Accounts Center to "Meta Account", and older app versions say "Download your information", so you may see those names instead.
  2. Choose only what you need. Under Customize information, select only Followers and following. Set the date range to All time and the format to JSON.
  3. Wait for the email. Instagram's Help Center says it can take up to 30 days. A followers-only export is often ready within minutes to a few hours. Once it's ready, Instagram gives you 4 days to download it.
  4. Download the ZIP. You don't need to unzip it or rename it.
  5. Open it in the tool. On the Instagram tool, choose the ZIP or drag it onto the upload area. Your results open on a separate page. To see that page before you have an export, use Try with sample data.
  6. Unfollow by hand in the Instagram app or on instagram.com, a few at a time. Each row's Open link opens the profile in a new tab. With Remember this result on this device on (the default), opened profiles get a check mark, so you can stop and continue later.

To see who unfollowed you, leave Remember this result on this device checked. Export again in a few weeks and open the new ZIP in the same browser. You'll get an "Unfollowed you" list covering the time between the two analyses. The guide to seeing who unfollowed you on Instagram covers this in more detail. For TikTok, X and Facebook exports, see the export tutorial.

Common questions

Is unfollowerstracker.com the same as UnfollowTool?

No. They're separate websites run by different people. Both read your Instagram data export, and both describe themselves as an unfollowers tracker, which is why they come up for the same searches. We make UnfollowTool.

Is unfollowerstracker.com safe?

It doesn't ask for your Instagram password and never logs in to your account, so it can't post, follow or unfollow anything as you. The trade-off is privacy: in the code we read, your ZIP is uploaded to its server, and the privacy policy doesn't say how long files are kept. If you use it, export only your followers and following so the file holds nothing else.

Does unfollowerstracker.com upload my ZIP file?

In the website code we read on October 1, 2026, yes. The ZIP is sent to admin.unfollowerstracker.com, and the lists you see come back from that server. The FAQ's statement that analysis is done locally doesn't match that code. You can check the current behavior in your browser's Network tab, as described above.

Why does unfollowerstracker.com reject my ZIP file?

The page only sends files whose name contains "instagram" and ends in .zip, and its file picker warns about files of 15 MB or more. Use the ZIP exactly as Instagram named it. If the file is too large, request a new export with only Followers and following selected. On iPhone, tapping the ZIP in the Files app unpacks it into a folder; pick the original .zip file next to it.

Can unfollowerstracker.com show who unfollowed me?

Not from one upload. Its "Unfollowers" tab lists accounts you follow that don't follow you back, which includes brands and people who never followed you. To see who actually left, you need two exports from different dates. UnfollowTool compares them for you when you analyze both in the same browser.

Does unfollowerstracker.com work for TikTok, X or Facebook?

No, it reads Instagram exports only. UnfollowTool has separate tools for TikTok, X and Facebook exports.
